A star was said to be one’s guide in the right path… would you believe in that?

“Those things above us are stars? That’s so cool!” A young boy said as his turquoise eyes glimmer with excitement. He looked above as he saw millions of lights covering the night sky. You giggled when you saw that expression of his, full of hope… a chance to live in the outside. “Do you like them, Eren?” You asked him. He then changed views from the sky to your face, he was still smiling. “Of course I do! Looking at those fireflies sticking above the night sky makes me curious what is out there.” He said as he went looking above again.

A star burns bright like a person’s devoting passion towards something he cares for…

“It’s ‘stars’, you pig. What are you two brats doing here?” A familiar voice came near as both of you turned your heads quickly to its direction. It was a young boy with black short hair and sharp dull eyes. He seemed annoyed when he saw us both doing nothing. “Levi! We’re just watching the stars. Want to join us?” You invited him to sit beside you. He ‘tch’ but still accepted your offer. The three of you enjoyed the time watching those lights above you. “Hey… let’s make a promise.” You said cheerfully to the both of them. Eren tilted his head while Levi showed a frown, as usual. “What is it about this time? Don’t tell me it’s one of your cheesy charms that you keep babbling about.” Eren laughed when he mentioned the word ‘charms’. Levi snickered when he heard it too. You guys are so mean… Eren… and Levi… “Just… forget it. You guys are no fun; you want to grow up anyways…” You uttered feeling embarrassed at the same time.

A star was made to make wishes come true… would you believe in that?

“Can I just tell you guys what we should promise… it’s almost late.” You informed them. They nodded and listened. “Let’s wish on one particular star… and afterwards, here.” You pulled out three wooden carved stars and explained them the rest. “As we set our minds to that star above us and kept holding to these three stars, our wishes might come true.” You said as you gave both of them a star. Without hesitation, they held on to it as it was something precious to them. They said their ‘thank you’ and went to follow your lead as you make the ritual. All of you closed your eyes… We wish for eternal happiness… as friends forever.

A star keeps on glowing even if it’s all alone in the darkness…

What just happened...? Eren… and Levi… Please stop this… NOW! You snapped when you saw them fighting. It was mad chaos and the titans were attacking the district. Everywhere was full of dead bodies. You tried to shake off the fear of seeing one dead person to the other but you can’t… because your friends are arguing in times like this. “Please stop this! Can’t you see that many people are risking their lives just to save us from this tragedy?! You shouldn't fight here!” You desperately bellowed them to let it go. Eren gritted his teeth and his face was obviously agitated with his current situation. I’m sorry that your mother didn't make it and… the worst part of it was it happened right in front of your very eyes but Eren, you must move on… for the sake of your mother’s sacrifice and yourself. “I told you many times Jaeger, don’t look back. Your mother’s not coming back.” Levi harshly said and left Eren with widened eyes. The young boy clenched his fists as if ready to punch but instead tears fell from his face. “Why… why her… Of all people, why does it have to be her?!” He cried between his sniffles and sobs.

You watched them still arguing about what have happened earlier. You stood there motionless as the screams of the people near you went mute. The shadows became larger and your eyes went dim. You slowly felt as if going to a bottomless abyss. There were tiny but distinct voices that you perceive… ______! We… save… now… ______!! Two messy shadows and now covered with a stain that is red. You felt something fall off from your hand. Afterwards… everything went blank.

A star dies when its soul reaches its end… would you believe in that?

Where am I…? Huh? Eren and Levi… You saw your friends riding on a huge boat with a lot of miserable people. Eren’s gaze was hidden beneath his hair while Levi kept his eyes at the sky. Eren… it’s me, ______. Don’t you recognize me? “… It’s your entire fault.” He whispered while tears start streaming down on his face. Your eyes widened and felt shaken when you heard Eren’s frustrated voice. The other boy kept his eyes above the sky with no reply. He keeps staring to it as if waiting for something to fall. “You’re the reason why she’s gone! First, our parents and now… her?! Why did you stop me from saving her?! WHY?!” Eren bawled while letting out steam from his head. Me? Dead? How… Levi looked back at Eren and shot him with a glare. He exhaled and lowered his head. “______ wouldn't want us both dead, you idiot. Even though it pains us both, she doesn't want us all dead. If we were to save her against a 14-meter Titan while having no weapons, we’ll die.” He replied coolly. The atmosphere went quiet and dreadful. I’m sorry… I’m so sorry that I gave you so much grief.

When both of them went to safer districts they ignored each other for a long time. Eren met two new people, Mikasa and Armin. They were a friendly bunch, I’m glad he was a little bit at ease with them sometimes but whenever he overhears about Titans, he kept remembering what had happened to his parents and… to me.

Levi went to stay in the underground city and live there as a thug. Though I disapprove about it, he manages to make friends there. He then found out what survival is and became a lone wolf, knowing that attraction to others may lead to serious consequences. I felt horrible knowing that these two people became like this is because of me. None of them should take the blame, it should be me.

A star’s light is warm and gives hope to everyone in despair…

After ten years, you sat there while random strangers passed by. Your dull eyes see nothing but fear and anguish. Your pale and icy hands felt numb as time passes. Why am I still here… There’s no chance for me to change this. You gave up. You have forgotten everything. While waiting you recognized a strong presence. Courage. A young man with soldier-like attire passed by while carrying his equipment with confidence. A familiar emblem fixed your eyes. Wings of freedom. The Survey Corps. Eren… was a big fan of them. He would love to become one of them. Your body followed the young man as he walked past an old building and went inside. Later you saw him standing on the corridor looking near the window. He placed his hand on his patch pocket and shut his eyes. What is he doing? Is he whispering a chant or something? He let out a sigh and went back pacing to a certain corridor and a room.

A star’s light keeps you away from fear and protects you from whatever danger…

When he entered the room, a noticeable voice rang between your ears. “Cadet Jaeger. Or should I say ‘Idiot’. You arrived at a right time.” A-ah… Le-Levi! Tears began forming on your emotionless eyes. You saw him changed a lot. He also wears the same uniform as the other and retained his short black hair and height. You felt you wanted to chuckle but you couldn't. Your face was stuck frozen like that, grey as ever. The young man laughed and went to sit on an available chair. “Yeah, yeah. I’m quite stunned you have made it this far… being Humanity’s Strongest and a clean freak at that.” He smiled. Levi just replied with a ‘tch’ and sat there staring at his window. “Would… she even forgive us to what we have done to her before?” He muttered to himself feeling the urge to keep the pain inside. Eren wasn't bothered by it and removed something from his patch pocket. It was an old wooden carved star. He went near Levi’s desk and placed it there. “Why wouldn't she? She’s our friend.” He gently spoke what his mind wanted him to say. You felt happy when you saw how much they both changed over the years. *sniffles* I… thank you… both of you.

A star reminds you that you’re not alone… would you believe in that?

Levi turned his back and held out his hand. Another old wooden carved star. “Yeah. A promise to become friends forever… or something like that.” He snickered a little. “I know what you mean by that.” Eren replied and grinned. Hmph! I thought you've guys changed… but come on! Stop with the teasing already! You wanted to stop blushing but you couldn’t. You have taken a liking to the both of them but it was too late. No more confessing, you guessed. “Hey… I’m sorry back then.” Eren avoided eye-contact but spoke quietly. Levi, emotionless as ever, turned his back and walked a few feet away from him. “What’s done is done. We made a choice but we somehow knew it was going to happen to anyone, including us. We were weak at that time. _______ would’ve done the same if it was either of us. To run while she still can. I had regrets after that but I know what we did was right. We made a mistake but it was too late. It already happened. We’re the only ones left.” He said. Levi… I’m glad that both of you are safe and alive. I can’t imagine both of you dying because of me. Eren beamed and saluted before leaving the Corporal’s office. He then paused for minute and reminded him of something. “Hey… later, let’s check the night sky and fulfil her wishes.” He uttered in a mild tone and afterwards he was gone.

A star connects lost travellers all together… making them see each other again.

Levi glanced at his desk where he saw the two stars near each other. His lips curved a little and placed another one beside it. “Even though you’re not here or any place that we might go… we still have a piece of you here.” He gently caressed your star and smiled. Ah… my star. I thought it went with me as I was swallowed by the Titan. He picked up the three of them and left them inside his pocket. He glimpsed through his window and saw his fellow companions roam around and the sky above. “… We forgot to say to you how much you meant to us. We… both love you.” He whispered. I love the both of you too… I can finally rest in peace knowing that both of you are friends once more. You slowly closed your eyes as your surrounding fade into white. You felt no pain and went on. Thank you… for being both my stars. I’ll never forget our promise. Forever.

A star... is a constant reminder and illuminates for a better future…

A bit inspired by "Reboot" [MV] and technically cried a little after watching. Sorry that I always end up killing you, hehe... my bad. Somehow, this is my first time writing a very long one-shot or fanfiction in my entire teenage life so there's a lot of typo here and there...
